In 1842, Inventor Jerome Increase Case established Case in Racine. He began making threshing machinery. The company later gained worldwide recognition as the first manufacturer of steam engines for its agricultural application. Eventually, the company grew to become the world's largest maker of steam engines.
Case had established themselves in the construction equipment industry by 1912. They became a manufacturer of road building machines including road graders and steam rollers. Case grew their construction machinery business through various acquisitions, starting with the American Tractor Corporation in the year 1957. Case had expanded their company by the middle part of the 1990s to become the top maker of medium-sized to light-sized construction machines.
Case merged with the corporation New Holland in the year 1999 and together they became CNH Global. This business became responsible for advertising several of the world's leading brands of agricultural and construction machines.
