The forklift is a material handling equipment used to lift and move loads from one place to another. Every component of a forklift has a specific function. Various parts can be used to move the load vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components that lift and lower the load. There are various types of masts for lifting loads to different heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is located within the cab under the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is underneath the rear of the truck.
Cab
Situated within the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all situated inside the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift components is the frame of the truck. This consists of the counterweights situated at the back that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
